Human Service Specialist (Res/HHW) - FT, Cedar City
Starting Wage: $17.51/hour
Job Summary
Horizon House West has an opening for a full-time Human Service Specialist. This is an *all-women's residential substance use treatment facility. The position will assist clients in a residential substance use disorder program with daily living needs, transport clients to and from support meetings and monitor the activities of clients. This is a position requires a willingness to work weekends, evenings, graveyard shifts, and holiday shifts. Current shift coverage is needed Thursday through Monday on graveyards (midnight to 8am) and/or swing shifts (4pm to midnight). It is mandatory to attend monthly staff meetings. If assigned to a graveyard shift, the pay rate includes $1.00 per hour shift differential.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct Supervision: Provided by the Staff Supervisor or team leader.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
· Develop a positive and supportive relationship with clients.
· Works independently with minimal supervision as well as effectively as a team contributor while understanding the necessity of communicating / coordinating client care with other employees and associated organizations.
· Assists clients in developing skills and resources aimed at achieving individual success in recovery.
· Coordination of services and resource allocation from admission through discharge.
· Observes client status at admission and throughout their stay while documenting findings in the electronic heath record.
· Completes all necessary paperwork/documentation including progress notes, discharge notes, safety plans, correspondence and other required documentation in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner.
· Attends staff training and completes e-learning assignments prior to expiration.
· Provides shift coverage: arrives promptly according to schedule, confers with supervisor over any schedule changes. Will work evenings and weekends when scheduled.
· Uses AEGIS intervention to diffuse client escalations.
· Exemplifies the organizational values of Performance, Innovation, and Excellence (PIE).
Assists clients in the development of their Individual Recovery Plan by helping them:
· articulate personal goals for recovery,
· determining reasonable and holistic steps to move toward recovery,
· identifying personal strengths in daily living and recovery skills to help reach recovery goals.
Dispense client medication and document such.
Provide transportation to meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or GED
· Some college education in psychology, social work or related field preferred
· Prior experience working in a social service program preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
· Able to pass background check (BCI)
· Valid Utah driver license (or equivalent)
· CPR/First Aid certification (secure within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter)
· AEGIS certification (secure within 30 days of hire and upon expiration)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A. Some knowledge of substance use disorders and treatment programs; some knowledge of community and regional resources engaged in social problem solving; some knowledge of personal financial management; some knowledge of practical consumer buying practices.
B. Ability to: develop effective professional working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, clients, and the public; to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; to work independently and manage work assignments in a high interpersonal contact environment; to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and follow ethical guidelines and Center/Program policies, procedures, and protocols.
C. Demonstrates skills: in establishing priorities, working independently, and proceeding with objectives without direct supervision when appropriate; in creativity in handling and resolving problems; in time management principles as it applies to scheduled appointments, meeting obligations, paperwork, encompassing all job duties; and in conflict resolution.
D. Must be proficient in use of computer and have keyboarding skills in order to enter and retrieve client's electronic records. General knowledge of Microsoft office and Google Suite software preferred.
